Girl Scouts Railroading Day

Discover the world of railroading while earning your Explore Norfolk Southern Patch during this unique experience at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. While participating in various transportation related classes, Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to learn about the significance of the railroading industry. Scouts will also meet several patch requirements during a special Railroad Safety class where they will examine important railroad safety practices and techniques. Girl Scouts of all ages are invited to participate in this exciting event! A hot dog lunch is included in your registration.

We require at least one Troop Leader/Adult Chaperone to purchase an “Adult” registration ticket and to remain with their Scouts/Troop throughout the duration of the event. All other attending adults/siblings who will not be participating in the event may pay a non-activity fee and for a train ride/turntable ride during check in the day of the event. Please note that by paying the non-activity fee you will be opting out of the provided lunch, and we cannot ensure that additional space within the event classrooms will be available. If you would like to receive the provided lunch and ensure that you have space in the classrooms, we recommend purchasing the event registration ticket.

 

  • Girl Scouts Railroading Day Registration: $30 plus a $5.10 tax and handling fee
    • Includes a train ride, turntable ride, lunch, event activities, and a fun patch
  • Non-Activity Fee + Train Ride:
    • Child (3-12): $8 plus tax per person
    • Adult: $12 plus tax per person
    • Senior/Military:  $10 plus tax per person
    • Turntable: $1 per person
  • Non-Activity Fee Only:
    • Child (3-12): $4 plus tax per person
    • Adult: $6 plus tax per person
    • Senior/Military:  $5 plus tax per person
    • Turntable: $1 per person

Event Schedule

Participating Scouts will be divided into lettered groups and will be given either AM class schedules or PM class schedules to follow throughout the duration of the event.

Schedule:

    • 8:00am-8:45am: Check-In at the Barber Junction Visitor’s Center
    • 8:45am-8:55am: Train Boarding (Both AM and PM Groups)
    • 9:00am-9:30am: Train Ride (Both AM and PM Groups)
    • 9:40am-12:10pm:
      • AM Group: Patch Classes/Activities 
      • PM Group: Free time to explore and complete your scavenger hunt, ride the turntable, and eat lunch 
    • 12:20pm-2:50pm:
      • AM Group: Free time to explore and complete your scavenger hunt, ride the turntable, and eat lunch 
      • PM Group: Patch Classes/Activities  
    • 3:00pm-3:30pm
      • Closing Remarks and Transportation Swap
