When is this event?

The date of the event is March 7, 2026. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Barber Junction Visitor’s Center and classes begin at 9:30 a.m. Classes and activities will conclude by 3:30p.m.

What does this event include?

This event includes:

  • Admission to the N.C. Transportation Museum
  • Hands-on activities related to Cub Scout Belt Loops with a connection to transportation
  • A 25-minute train ride around the site on our historic railcars
  • Museum scavenger hunt
  • Free time to explore exhibits
  • Lunch
  • Event patch
  • Each Cub will receive two belt loops after all requirements have been satisfied. Offered Belt Loop/Pin adventures include:
    • Lions: “On Your Mark” and “On A Roll”
    • Tigers: “Rolling Tigers” and “Floats and Boats”
    • Wolves: “Code of the Wolf” and “Air of the Wolf”
    • Bears: “Forensics” and “Marble Madness”
    • Webelo: “Race Time Webelos (Raingutter Regatta)”
    •  Arrow of Light: “First Aid and Safety”
How much does this event cost?

Cost is $30 plus a $5.10 tax and handling fee for a total of $35.10 per participant.*

*At least one responsible adult (leader/parent chaperone) per attending rank (Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelo, and Arrow of Light) is required to purchase and “Adult” registration ticket and must remain with their scout(s) throughout the duration of the event. All other attending adults/children who will not be participating in the scouting event are not required to pay the Cub Scout Transportation Explorer Day event registration fee. Visitors who are not paying the Cub Scout Transportation Explorer Day registration fee will be opting out of the provided lunch and we cannot ensure that additional space within the event classrooms will be available.

Our Cub Scout Transportation Explorer Day event runs simultaneously with our Steam Over Spencer: A Live Steam Model Train event, therefore any individuals not paying the Cub Scout Transportation Explorer Day fee will be asked to pay the Steam Over Spencer event fee to gain entrance to the Museum. Train Rides can be added for an additional cost. Please see below for the pricing schedule for the weekend.

What's the schedule of the event?

Check-in is from 8:30 a.m.-9:15 a.m. at the Barber Junction Visitor’s Center. Cubs will be assigned to a lettered class session to complete their loop/pin requirements. Cubs will also have designated time for lunch, a train ride, and time to explore the museum

Is lunch included?

Lunch will be provided for all ticket holders. Our two lunch options are included below. Please note that our vegetarian option is available by request only. You will be asked to select your desired lunch option during event registration.

  • Sandwich Lunch Option:
    • 1 Deli Meat Sandwich (Ham & American, Turkey & Swiss, or Roast Beef & Provolone on Kaiser Rolls with Lettuce) or 1 Uncrustable (Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly) Sandwich
    • Chips/Cookie
    • Water and a Caprisun
  • Vegetarian Option (By Request Only):
    • Garden Salad with Dressing (Mix of romaine lettuce, red onions, cheese, grape tomatoes and shredded carrot.)
    • Humus w/side (Plain and Roasted Red Pepper Hummus. Served with celery, pita bread and baby carrots)
    • Water and a Caprisun
What if it rains?
This event will be held rain or shine. Most activities are indoors, but there is walking between buildings.  Please dress for the weather.
How do I register?

Registration Opens January 9th, 2026
Deadline For Registration is February 28th, 2026

You can register your pack by clicking the “register” button on the main web page. At least one responsible adult per attending rank (leader/parent chaperone) is required to stay for the duration of the event. Please call Meghan DeLapp at (980) 305-6298 if you have questions about registration.

What is the refund policy?

We do not offer refunds or exchanges unless the Cub Scout Transportation Explorer Day itself is canceled or rescheduled due to adverse weather conditions. 

If the Museum elects to reschedule the Cub Scout Transportation Explorer Day, an alternative date will be selected and offered. We will offer refunds for 30 days after the alternative date is announced; after that, we cannot give refunds.
