Railroad Passenger Car Alliance Annual Conference

January 12 – 15, 2023

The N.C. Transportation Museum is pleased to host the Railroad Passenger Car Alliance annual conference January 12-15, 2023! Since RPCA last visited NCTM in 2010, the museum has grown to feature the 90,000 square foot Back Shop now open to the public as exhibit and event space, has acquired additional rail equipment for our on-site train ride, and continues to fill its calendar with year-round special events that appeal to everyone from transportation enthusiasts to families who visit to enjoy their holiday traditions. Well over 150,000 people now visit the museum annually, and the surrounding community has enjoyed some $22.2 million in economic impact. We thank you for being a part of our success!

One of the highlights of our conference will be a visit to the Aberdeen Carolina & Western headquarters and shop facility in Candor, NC. There we will enjoy a North Carolina pig pickin’, live music from the Norfolk Southern Lawmen band, and tours of the Aberdeen Carolina & Western’s modern shop facility and immaculate collection of private rail cars. You will not want to miss this special opportunity.

We will also visit the Southeastern Narrow Gauge & Shortline Museum in Newton, NC, where volunteers have transformed the former Southern Railway depot and surrounding grounds into museum space where they proudly display rail equipment from the Eastern Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad, the Carolina & Northwestern Railway, and the Alexander Railroad (a North Carolina shortline still operating today) and more.

The conference will include classroom and hands-on technical seminars hosted at the N.C. Transportation Museum facilities, including the yearly Amtrak and Federal Railroad Administration updates. The annual banquet will take place Saturday night at the museum and feature guest speakers Davidson A. Ward and D. Shane Meador of FMW Solutions, LLC, who will talk with us about their recent projects including the much-publicized U.S. Sugar No. 148 steam locomotive restoration and passenger service operating out of Clewiston, FL.

We feel the N.C. Transportation Museum, which dates back to 1896 as Southern Railway’s Spencer Shops steam locomotive repair facility, is a perfect place to gather for a long weekend of networking and educational opportunities mixed with a whole lot of fun with friends. We hope you’ll join us in Spencer on January 12-15, 2023!
